Origins Solids – Our solid color production began when we had to produce more of certain colors than we were able to collect from the Post-consumer waste stream. To stay true to our goal of using post-consumer recycled resin, we chose to add color pigment to the natural, uncolored post-consumer resin. We produced these colors mainly as Sheet Flake (the “sf” you can see in the color number caption below). This is a process where we added color pigment to natural post consumer resin and extrude it in thin sheet form, about 0.015″ thick. Then we would granulate the sheet into flakes to yield a flake that was indistinguishable from that of a granulated bottle of the same color. Flakes in compression molding produce more interesting patterns than the industry standard pellets. In this way, we could produce large quantities of some of our Origins Patterns.
It was not long after this that we were asked if we could produce some of the bright colors as solid colors only. We gave that a try and everyone was satisfied with the results. Then we had to ask ourselves if we were going to produce solid color panels, what is the most efficient method? This is when we decided to add color pigment or natural post-consumer resin and pelletize it. This is like extruding strands of spaghetti underwater and then chopping them to be less than 1/8″ long. With solid color pellets, we could not only produce solid color panels but also develop new Origins Patterns.
We have a two-step process, where step one is preparing the resin by color and shape and step two is forming the prepared resin into a shape which in our case, is a flat panel. In the color charts below, you will see there are 2 charts that reflect resin preparation in our first production step. The first color chart is for sheet flake and works best for lower volume orders. The second color chart is for pellets, for higher volume orders. It is a fact in the plastic business that volume makes all the difference in pricing. When one purchases a typical plastic item for a few dollars, the item is most likely made in very high volume. The flip side of this is that one sheet of Origins Patterns or Origins Solids can be very expensive.
The second step in our panel production process is the compression molding process. This process is capable of producing just a few panels at a time at a slow rate. This is quite different from the extrusion process which can out produce compression molding by many times. This makes compression molding ideal for smaller projects. One exception that we can offer is a limited variety of Origins Quick Ship panels. These are lower price because we have already extruded a volume of them to inventory.

(Resin in flake form for orders less than 500 Lbs)
Origins Solids made with sheet flake can be color batch sensitive.
Please note – For compression molded, less than 500 Lb., colors there will be an extra charge for machine clean-out and purging. In spite of these efforts, our use of the compression molding process does NOT guarantee a panel will be free of one or more unintended color spots.

Origins Solids Average Prices
Pricing is based upon the quantity of panels that are made in one batch. A batch is a single color or single mixture of colors. The larger the batch size, the lower the price per sheet will be.
- Pebble finish is standard, smooth is optional.
- Masking is applied to both sides of panels 1/2″ and thicker.
- Add $0.60/sf for masking on less than 1/2″ panels
- Origins ships with the mold edge – all edges require trimming.
- Colors are batch sensitive.
Origins Panels Shipping Information –
Origins panels are stacked flat on a wood pallet. Each panel is protected by sheets of recyclable chipboard. Origins will ship via LTL (Less Than Truckload). Extended forks are required to move the load, otherwise the flexibility of the panels will cause the pallet to break and potentially drive pallet nail heads through the packing material into the bottom panel. Origins weight calculation formula: L” x W” x T” x 0.036 = lbs. Add 400 lbs. tare per 4′ x 8′ pallet, 500 lbs. for 5′ x 10′ and 600 lbs. for 5′ x 12′ pallets. Origins is shipped LTL, NMFC – 156830-1, class 55. Packing Charges: $75.00 per pallet.
