YH Solid Colors

Creating the Color – Our solid color production begins with natural, uncolored post-consumer recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE). To this, we add color pigment, in a process referred to as compounding. When you scroll down you will find our color charts for standard colors. For custom colors, it is whatever you want, we can match any color.

For the colors in the standard color chart, we stock the color pigment. In order to make sheets from these colors, we require a production run of 250 Lbs. (113 Kgs.) of HDPE. Custom colors require a match to create the color pigment for compounding into HDPE. We can match any color, opaque or translucent.

Applying the Color – We have 3 different methods to produce solid color sheets, each depending upon the size of the project. We use extrusion for larger projects, with a minimum of 1,600 Lbs. (726 Kgs.) for thickness up to 5/8″ (16 mm). Here we compound the color pigment into the resin to create pellets and then we extrude those colored pellets into sheets. In some cases, we can bypass the pelletizing process and compound the color as we are extruding the sheets.  For smaller projects and for sheets thicker than 5/8″ (16 mm), we have 2 methods to produce solid color sheets. One has a minimum of 1,600 Lbs. (726 Kgs.) and requires compounding color while creating pellets with a twin-screw extruder and pelletizer and then compression molding the pellets. The other has a minimum of 250 Lbs. (113 Kgs.) and requires the color pigment to be compounded into thin sheets which are then laminated in the compression molding process to become thicker sheets.  Our compression-molded sheet thicknesses range from 1/8″  (3 mm) to 3/4″ (19 mm) with a minimum of 10 sheets and for sheet thicknesses of 1″ (25 mm) to 2″ (50 mm) a minimum of 5 panels. We can produce thin 0.015″ (0.28mm) and thicker sheets that are 48″ (1219 mm) and 60″ (1524 mm) wide. With these methods, the customer can usually obtain the product they need at a competitive price for the same product.

Color Purity – Our colors are made by leading color pigment manufacturers. Our color-matching service is some of the best in the industry. When we use the extrusion method to produce sheets, the pellets with color are fed into a closed system that blends the molten resin together, eliminating the possibility of color contamination of the sheets. With the compression molding process, the possibility of color contamination is always there. However, by using a twin-screw color compounding pelletizing extruder or compression molding laminated extruded sheet, the risk of color contamination is drastically reduced. These processes of color matching, pelletizing, extruding, and laminating all take time.

YH Plastic Sheet Shipping Information –

YH Solid Color sheets are stacked flat on a wood pallet. Each sheet is protected by sheets of recyclable chipboard. Sheets will ship via LTL (Less Than Truckload). Extended forks are required to move the load otherwise the flexibility of the sheets will cause the pallet to break and potentially drive pallet nail heads through the packing material into the bottom sheet. HDPE Sheet weight calculation formula: L” x W” x T” x 0.036 = lbs. Add 400 lbs. tare per 4′ x 8′ pallet, 500 lbs. for 5′ x 10′ and 600 lbs. for 5′ x 12′ pallets. YH Solid Color sheets are shipped LTL,  NMFC – 44620, class 65. Packing Charges Vary, $75.00 to $150 per pallet.
